ABOUT US

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to refurbish and restore the Grandstand at Veteran's Memorial Field to its original condition.

The Grandstand, originally called Municipal Stadium, was designed in 1935 by Livermore and Samuelson Architects out of Madison, WI as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project. The WPA was an American New Deal agency that employed millions of jobseekers to carry out public works projects, including the construction of public buildings and roads.

The Grandstand has historically been used for community events, and our vision is to bring it back to that state, so the community has a meeting space for outdoor activities, including, but not limited to, football games, races, demo derbies, and more.

The Grandstand is listed as an historic landmark in the City of Portage and we are actively working on adding it to the National Historic Registry. We recently discovered these blueprints, which takes us one step closer to accomplishing that goal.
